Today I'm packing up life in cardboard boxes, time to move. I marvel at the ways passion and devotion can equate accumulation: books, records, ticket stubs, playbills, love letters, photographs, receipts for purchases both large and small.

I've spent ten years in this h [read more...]

You should have seen us trying to steer the Uhaul trailer in and out of the snow (and ice) packed driveway. But we managed, without having to phone AAA (which cannot be said for the long trip from Atlanta to Taos when our gas gauge quit working and we ran out of gas. Oi!)

Then it's boxes and bubble wrap and the undoing of all we'd done [read more...]

Many of you know that my favorite place on earth (aside from Wonderland, Oz, and Cirque du Soleil) is the graveyard, especially the Eastern European Graveyard.

While Silas and I were in Europe in December, we spent a very VERY cold day inside the walls of a beloved cemetery. My body was fairly miserable but my heart leaped with glee.

We wanted to make sure we had captured the graveyard in winter, so as to add to our project Guardian: Cemeteries and Their Sentinels (seen here: http [read more...]

Fashion Candy

So as I wake this morning, hungry for a little eye candy to start my day, I stumble onto these fashion photos that just make a girl glad she's a girl. Know what I mean? Alexander McQueen certainly does.

These frolicsome frocks make me want my own catwalk. Can you feel the sashay? Would it be wrong to dress up for the chihuahuas and the vacuum cleaner?

Delish! Replaced by the spring edition (which, I am happy to report, we're in as well!)

But this feature on Duirwaigh Studios has lots of bells and whistles, including several full-page prints.
New Art

While some of you are aware that we've been in Georgia since mid-December, addressing a Series of Colossal Blessings disguised as Series of Unfortunate Events, what many of you don't know is that we spent the fall creating new art.

Typically July - November is the busiest time of year for us, as most of our publishing partners are asking for art they can launch the following year. This year was no different, except that when Thanksgiving finally rolled around, instead of resting after t [read more...]

But since we've returned to Kennesaw, we've had to face some pretty devastating news. Remember the disaster/emergency relief declared for the south last fall? Rains came down and hard, weaving a path of wet destruction for many. Including us. It washed out our roof, our garage, our car, and half the walls in our house.

No [read more...]

I promised more delights from our trip to Europe, and I also attested to the fact we have waaaaay too many images to possibly post in one gathering. So I've had to break up the yummies into their own goody baskets.

As you know, I'm in Kennesaw, preparing for our final cross-country move (I hope!) and also trying to save the roof on our house, so I really have NO time for the extravagence of Photoshop.

I'm back from Europe. Back from the edge of illness. Back from the bowels of holiday travel. But still dancing the line of sanity, thank you very much.

Though we wish we'd been able to update regularly, that's been the teensiest bit impractical. Let me spell it out for you this way:

Thanksgiving - Silas and I watch the Macy's parade from our living room couch in Taos where I am busy hacking up my left lung. Never found out if it was H1N1 or what, but it was entirely unpleasant. < [read more...]

Happy New Year!

And to celebrate, Duirwaigh is moving, which means packing and sorting and SELLING.

You may be scratching your head. "Wait. Didn't they do this already?"

Yes and no. Let me clarify:

May 2008: First moving sale. Nine HUNDRED and eleven auctions on ebay. This was to clear the path in our home and gallery warehouse so we could actually see the floor and begin the real work.

October 2008: Second moving sale.

A little while ago I had the opportunity to have one of my illustration featured on a CD cover of a solo album of Flower Kings mastermind Roine Stolt. The Flower Kings are one of the major players in today's revived progressive rock scene and many of their numerous albums impressed me with their creativity and strikingly engaging music.

Even though nowadays my listening habits have moved to about 90% classical mus [read more...]

It's not one of those charming fairy tales I love so much, unless of course you consider your self and your soul as fairytale fodder. (Who doesn't, right?) It's called SOULCRAFT, by Bill Plotkin. And if you're involved at all on a spiritual journey that's included times of intense darkness, this book is essential.

There is a pile on my desktop, well, actually more on my screen. We are in the digital age after all. The reason why there was so much silence (oh so deceptive) was because we are buried deep in so many projects and as often in fall - the deadlines approach wearing a black cloak, holding the hour glass in one hand and the c in the other.

So there is a little sneak peak now on what is right now on my desk. Various calendars for 2011 are in the making, Alice in Wonderland (have you seen t [read more...]

It's official. We spent Halloween in our studio, pushing toward the final stretch of publishers' deadlines. Although I'd have much preferred a concert or costume party, or even a date with Silas to the only movie theater in town to watch Where the Wild Things Are, I suppose it is somehow befitting that we work on deadlines on All Souls Eve.

I did, however, console myself with a White Russian, though I'm sad to report it had nothing whatsoever to do with Mikael Baryshnikov.

Since [read more...]
